I am starting this topic to invite discussion about my Op-Ed piece published in the Courier and also available in the online opinion page. In this piece (and planned future Op-Eds) I try to summarize Michael Sandel's book Justice, which roughly parallels his Harvard course which can be viewed online.
In response to the two who have made online comments. Thanks for you interest in the subject. I have agreements and disagreements with both viewpoints and hope that this forum might be used as a way to find common ground. To that end, I invite ideas that could lead to a more useful exchange.
You can find folks who understand themselves as Bible-believers on both sides of most ethical debates, so I do not see it as an easily interpreted instruction manual for living. Admittedly, much suffering has been inflicted in the name of religion, but that doesn't mean that religion hasn't done more good than harm.
I believe that Sandel challenges extreme positions in a way that can promote a convergence of ideas. Hopefully, this forum can be a contribution to that end.
